Other Homebrew Kits
Home brew kits are the perfect place to start for a new brewer or for a brewer who lacks the time or inclination to carry out a full mash brew.
There was a time not, so long ago, when home brewed beer, particularly beer brewed with kits was considered to be just a cheap way of getting drunk.
The brews which were born of these kits only possessed a passing resemblance to the beers they were supposed to be facsimiles of, in fact, a lot of the time they only possessed a passing resemblance to beer!
All that has changed now. The emergence of all malt kits and kits created by the actual brewers of commercial beers has enabled us to produce beers which are almost indistinguishable from the real thing.
Manufacturers such as Coopers and Tooheys of Australia, Brewferm, Muntons and Brupaks of England and True Brew of America have made massive improvements to the quality of ingredients available to home brewers. The kits produced by these and many other kit producers mean that it is now possible to produce beers which are not far short of their commercial cousins.
There are also full mash kits, all malt kits and malt kits with pre-crushed speciality grains available. These kits are pushing the boundaries for home brewing all the time and encouraging home brewers to experiment with styles and methods of brewing which we probably wouldn't have thought of previously. Using these kits is also makes the transition from malt extract kits to full mash brewing a seamless progression.
A number of kits have recently started to include fresh or pelletised hops, this simple addition to the standard range of kits has enabled home brewers to tweak the recipes provided in the kits to their own tastes. In many cases just this minor improvement to a kit can produce a monumental improvement to the final beer.
